Kindergarteners and first graders sure did have fun this week in the Jackson Library counting the monkeys! We read this hilarious book by Mac Barnett and then the kids designed their own monkey counting page like the ones that DIDN’T appear in the story! At the computer station, they played a monkey numerical order game and checked out books. Fun!

Kindergarteners and first graders had fun in the Jackson Library last week with Pete the Cat! After reading Pete the Cat: Rockin’ in My School Shoes, the kids pretended Pete was at Jackson Elementary and thought of something he might love at school. They created their own book page! Then they explored Starfall at the computer station.

Last week in the Jackson Library, fourth graders set reading/library goals using the virtual sticky note board, Lino. They had to make sure it was a complete sentence. We discussed internet safety and how they should not put their name online, but they could put their initials. They even added their own emojis! Since one of the Campus Improvement Goals is to close the campus-district gap in Reading, I also made my Teacher Professional Goal/Student Learning Outcome annual goal: to improve reading skills by teaching strategies during library lessons.
I have had fun learning how to run Jackson’s television station along with our JagTube crew! Ms. Cockrell, our principal, even made an appearance and encouraged us to start the year strong. We started a new event! After birthdays are announced, the kids can come get a birthday pencil. We kept some important traditions like the Fun Friday Joke of the Day. Stay tuned to see what Jackson news is next!

I sure did have fun decorating the library at Jackson! I am excited to be the new librarian here and wanted to have a jaguar theme since that is our mascot.
